The growing awareness about Fire Safety
With a new wave of infrastructure investments in a resurgent and growing India, safety and security of the occupants of these developments becomes paramount. The usage & application of fire safety equipment are continuously increasing with corporations and commercial entities laying additional emphasis on fire safety and security. Many state governments have now made it mandatory for proper installation and adequacy of fire safety installations, particularly in commercial establishments.

On the industrial front, large refineries, petrochemical complexes, biotechnology ventures, pharmaceutical, automobile, steel and oil & gas exploration projects need to comply with various mandatory safety regulation. Major fire outbreaks in recent history in india
  • Kollam, Kerala - April 2016 - 107 dead and over 350 injured after reworks were burnt against the law at the Puttingal Temple
  • Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu - September 2012 – 38 dead in a reworks factory incident at Muthalipatti
  • Kolkata, West Bengal - December - 2011 – 90 dead in a massive re at AMRI hospital in Kolkata. Inammable substances were later found in the basement of the hospital
  • Meerut, Uttar Pradesh - April 2006 – 100 people dead at a consumer electronic fair after a short circuit caused massive re break out
  • Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu - July 2004 – 94 children burnt to death after a thatched roof in a primary school caught re
Inference - All the above incidents unfortunately indicate that they could have been avoided with slightly better preparedness. The rules and codes need to be more stringent and all stakeholders involved need to be more vigilant and prepared for such incidents to minimize the loss of life and property.
